Edinburgh entertained Stockport 2006 in a Northern League fixture at Redbraes Park today (8th Aug 2010) eventually going down by the narrowest of margins in what was a great advert for Cycle Speedway.
A one point defeat for the Falcons fails to tell the whole story as Referee Hewitson excluded no less than four riders within the first four heats as both sides went full on for victory well aware of the significance the result could have on the league title.
The Falcons were without Robert Bandosz and Gav Kennedy for very different reasons and drafted in Alan Smith and Calum Slight, both of whom have had very limited racing to date this season. This was to have a significant bearing on the outcome of the match as the Stockport younger riders racing experience eventually pulled them through for a one point victory.
For Edinburgh, Craig Newsome top scored with 19 points dropping his only point to Terry Norman in Heat three. Likewise Terry’s only defeat to an opposing rider was to Craig in heat 15.
