The British U-18 Championship staged at Somerset proved a learning experience for the two Kart Raceway Cobras involved.

Shane Hazelden finished with two second places from his five rides – he was unlucky to be pipped for a win by Jake Knight in the closing metres of Heat 13 – for a total of 4 points and 14th place. Fellow 16 year old Tom Stokes, meanwhile, managed two third places for 15th spot, but like Hazelden clearly has time on his side.

The Isle of Wight’s Brendan Johnson won the Championship to complete a marvellous personal fightback from serious injuries sustained last August. Mildenhall’s Joe Jacobs finished second, with Kyle Howarth – who was runner-up in both this event and the British U-15 series last year – placing third.

Scorers (main 20 heat programme):

Joe Jacobs 12, Tom Perry 12 (both to Grand Final), Kyle Howarth 11, Jason Garitty 11, Jake Knight 10, Brendan Johnson 10 (qualify for Semi-Final), Richard Franklin 9, Ashley Morris 9, John Resch 7, Darryl Ritchings 6, James Sarjeant 6, Brandon Freemantle 5, Oliver Rayson 5, Shane Hazelden 4, Tom Stokes 2, Daniel I’Anson 1

Reserves: Lloyd Barrett 0 (2 rides), Adam Kirby 0 (2 rides)

Semi Final:
Brendon Johnson, Kyle Howarth (both through to Final), Jake Knight, Jason Garitty

Grand Final:
Brendan Johnson, Joe Jacobs, Kyle Howarth, Tom Perry
