Swindon Speedway: Russell calls for fans to be "eighth man."

Swindon's 2010 Elite league campaign continues when Ronnie Russell’s
side host a powerful looking Coventry side at Blunsdon on Thursday (22
July).

The Robins currently lie sixth in the league standings, but do have
matches in hand over the teams directly above them.

Fans are reminded that the Abbey Stadium turnstiles will open at the
earlier time of 6pm on Thursday as Robins’ captain Leigh Adams will be
officially signing his recently released biography – ‘The Book’.

Adams’ officially launched his biography at the recent British
Speedway Grand Prix and the response from the public at large was
huge.

The signing session begins at 6.00 p.m. and will continue until 6.45 p.m.

On-track, the Australian stalwart leads the Robins’ septet and is
partnered at No. 2 by likeable Australian youngster Cory Gathercole.
Grzegorz Zengota and Mads Korneliussen fill berths 3 and 4
respectively, whilst the in-form Simon Stead assumes the No.5 role.

Meanwhile, Morten Risager partners Thomas H. Jonasson at reserve –
with the Swedish youngster having recovered from the painful tooth
problems he suffered last week.

Thursday’s opponents sit eighth in the Sky Sports Elite League table
but do track a formidable looking side. The Bees’ squad includes
Krzysztof Kasprzak, Ben Barker and Chris Harris in heat-leader roles,
whilst the youthful British pairing of Lewis Bridger and Edward
Kennett slot into second-string capacities.

Richard Sweetman is partnered by thrill-a-minute Pole Przemyslaw
Pawlicki at reserve.

Swindon manager Ronnie Russell said:

"We know first-hand what a stern threat Coventry pose after Alun
Rossiter’s side notched a victory at Blunsdon earlier in the year.
With that in mind, we’ll have to perform strongly from the outset on
Thursday as we target maximum league points."

"I’m sure it will be another tough fifteen heats of action. We need
the fans be our eighth man on the night by creating a fantastic
atmosphere on the terraces."

"Our late July and early August period will prove crucial in the final
reckoning, but the Play-Off charge is on and we want our loyal
supporters to be an integral part of it!"
