Ipswich Speedway: Can Witches Surprise Table Topping Pirates?

A battle of epic proportions is expected at Foxhall Stadium on Thursday evening as Ipswich Witches take on the all conquering Poole Pirates, led by British Grand Prix winner Chris Holder.

Poole are still runaway leaders of the Sky Sports Elite League but have shown a few chinks in their armour away from home recently, losing to both Peterborough and Eastbourne while Ipswich are desperate for three points to stay in touch with Coventry and Eastbourne in their battle to avoid the relegation play-offs.

The Witches will be hoping that Polish/Canadian newcomer Chris Slabon will add some much needed back-up to Scott Nicholls in the number two position while reserves Dawid Stachyra and Linus Sundstrom will have their hands full dealing with the Pirates Aussie reserve pairing of Darcy Ward and Jason Doyle.

Team Boss Pete Simmons: “ It’s been a disappointing season so far and no one is more disappointed than me, but a win over the league leaders could give our revamped side the impetus to climb up the table and avoid the relegation play-offs. We really need the crowd to be behind the boys big time on Thursday”.
