Much more of the same please, that is what the Management and Supporters of the Eastbourne ‘Lifestyle’ Eagles will be hoping for as the Sussex outfit bid to extend their impressive home winning streak as the Lakeside Hammers pay their second visit of the 2010 season to Arlington stadium this coming Thursday evening (7.30p.m. parade – 7.45p.m first race).
With emphatic home victories to reflect upon against Coventry, Peterborough and most recently, and arguably the most satisfying, against the team at the top of the Elite League table, the Poole Pirates, the Eagles now turn their attention to their most local rivals as they attempt to make it four wins out of four, and ideally another three league points, around their home strip against another side currently well in the mix for a top four finish and a Play Off berth.
With the launch of Eastbourne’s Summer Kids for a Quid initiative set to be implemented ready for the visit of the Hammers, the clubs hierarchy will be hoping that the fans come out in their droves to witness the Eagles go head to head with the Purfleet outfit, and you can be sure that they will be looking to improve upon the 45-45 draw that they achieved on their first visit on Good Friday.
Indeed a favourable result at Arlington would strengthen the Lakeside bid to finish in the section’s top four, a finish that would see them involved in the final charge for Elite League gold.
Equally another entry in the win column for Eastbourne would see them gain further ground in the race to avoid the table cellar position, one currently occupied by the Ipswich Witches, and one that could yet see them involved in a potential promotion / relegation scrap against the winners of the Premier League Play Off’s.
However, such is the current mood at the Sussex circuit following their recent good form, possible relegation is the last thing on their minds, the ethic now prevalent being that the only way is up and although a top four finish could now be considered little more than a pipe dream, with further matches to come against the teams most actively involved, Poole, Wolverhampton, Peterborough and Belle Vue as well as the Hammers on Thursday they can still have a major say as to who finally makes it.
With the Eagles set to track a full strength side for the first time in some weeks, indeed for the very first time with new recruit Tomasz Jedrzejak in the line up they will undoubtedly hope to hit the Hammers hard from the word go. However with Lakeside containing more than a few Arlington aficionados in addition to three former Eagles in Adam Shields, Lee Richardson and Paul Hurry in their ranks, the Sussex side know only too well that they cannot afford to be complacent. All in all, with both teams set to line up at full strength, local derby action of the highest order is assured and with Kids able to go for a Quid, Arlington is surely the place to be as once more Thursday night is Speedway night.
