Eddie Castro scored 13 points to spearhead the Victorville Vikings victory over the Ridgecrest Aces on Harley Night at Wheel2Wheel Raceway in Victorville.
Former National Champion Charlie “The Edge” Venegas got the Aces off to a good start by leading a 4-2 heat with Dale Facchini. After two exclusions reduced the second heat to a match race, Philip Harmatiuk defeated Robbie Sauer to extend the Ridgecrest lead. Castro and Michael Hull teamed up for a 5-1 to give the Vikings their first lead of the match.
Austin Novratil and Philip Harmatiuk combined for a 4-2 to help the Aces regain the lead. Castro and Hull countered with their second 5-1 in a row to give the Vikings a 16-13 advantage. The Aces then ran off four consecutive heat wins starting with Novratil and Marquez combining for a 4-2 heat advantage. Their success was followed by another race being reduced to a pair of riders with Tyson Burmeister defeating Sauer. Dale Facchini and Harmatiuk combined for a 4-2 to give the Aces what would turn out to be their final lead of the evening.
Castro and Hull brought the Aces’ run to a screeching halt with their third consecutive 5-1 and a 27-25 Viking lead. Buck Blair won the first drawn heat of the evening before Venegas and Facchini teamed up for a Ridgecrest 4-2 and tied the match at 32. Another drawn heat left the score tied at 35 with three races left.
Tim Gomez and Blair scored an impressive 5-1 in the pivotal heat 13 to give the Vikings a four point advantage with two races to go. Castro and Sauer closed the door on the match with a 4-2 in the penultimate heat to give Victorville an insurmountable six point lead entering the final heat. Venegas and Burmeister paired for a 5-1 in the last heat to make the final score 45-43 in favor of Victorville.
Dylan Black led all four laps en route to victory in the Second Division Main Event. Aaron Fox finished second, Brandon Leedy was third, and Tim McGrath finished fourth.
McGrath chased down Kevin Johnson and beat him to the finish line by inches to win the Third Division Main Event. Paul Thornton finished third.
Rocco Scopellite won all of his heat and also took home the Youth First Division Main Event victory. Max Ruml finished second and Samuel Ramirez was third.
Nick Varner put together four smooth laps to win the Youth Second Division Main Event. Dylan Ruml finished second, Hayley Perrault was third, Michael Wells finished fourth, and Gino Scopellite was fifth.
Brandon Rhea was victorious in the Pee Wee/Powder Puff Main Event. Cassi Novratil finished second, Julie Morrison was third, Ally McGrath finished fourth, Keelan Venegas was fifth, Pedro Concepcion finished sixth, and Dakota Shockley was seventh.
Dylan Beard and Edwin Soto fought off every challenge that Joe Jones and Jimmy Olsen could muster and held on to win the Sidecar Main Event. Gerard Jackson and Dave German were third and Joe Petraglovic and Mike Moreno finished fourth.
The next event at Wheel2Wheel Raceway is the Firecracker Derby this Saturday, July 3.
