The biggest flattrack racing event ever staged in Europe sees the return to the Short Track UK series of Braintree Bonanza winner Ed Kennett this weekend.
The two day event held at the UK's only half-mile circuit, on traditional cinders to boot, at the Amman Valley Trotting Arena in Ammanford near Swansea in South Wales, is attracting a record field of sixty-plus riders and over 65 races.
Under the magnificent floodlights on Saturday evening will be staged Round One of this year's European Mefo Flattrack Cup event - the first-time the continent's main Short Track event has been staged in the UK. Riders from seven countries compete,: the home nation Wales plus England, Italy (regular Ammanford winner, Marco Belli installed as pre-meeting favourite), Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany and special guest from over the pond, certain to report back to the home of the sport quite how far the Limeys have progessed: AMA Pro Flattracker, Levi Mayer.
After the European round, it's back to the STUK title race on the Sunday afternoon with former Speedway man, Ade Collins going into Round Three of this year's championship with a 100% record from the opening two rounds held at King's Lynn and Peterboriough. The challenge for Collins and Coventry Bee Kennett will be to transfer their skills around the smaller circuits to the super-fast wide-open spaces of Amman Valley.
The Mefo Cup meeting on Saturday night starts at 7pm with the afternoon action on the Sunday underway at 1pm.
Riders from 7 different countries are coming to compete in the European Mefo Flattrack Cup and Round 3 of the Pozzani Silkolene Shorttrack Championship on UK's only 1/2mile Dirk Track Oval at the Amman Valley Horse Trotting Track ,South Wales.
It is a real star line up including Elite League Speedway Star rider Edward Kennett (GB),3x UK Champion Marco Belli(IT), HM Plant Honda rider Ade Collins(GB), (USA), 2009 UK & European Champion Peter Boast, 2007 European Champ Jacopo Monti (IT), 2nd 2009 Euro Championship Jan- Willem Janson (CH), last years Winner Steve Hall(GB), Mick Janson (NL), Halbe Scheper (NL),Massimiliano Andreotti (IT), Tom Woolley(GB), Rusty Hodgson(GB), Stefan Gatzenmier(D) and many more....
