Two of the three Gillman Speedway riders competing in today's Australian Sidecar Championship Qualifying Round at Newcastle Showground.
Mark Plaisted/Jack Spear finished third with 12 points, and Daniel Puddy/Matt Morgan finished sixth with 9 points.
Just missing out were Ron Parker/Nik Schwarzer who finished 11th with 6 points, losing out on a count back to Gary Moon/Mick Ing and Simon Hartley/Nathan Chisholm both also on 6 points.
Interestingly Moon would have finished on 5 points as he was running second in his final ride until fellow North Queensland rider Jason Aldridge slowed momentarily on the last lap until Moon had passed to take the win.
The meeting was a drawn out affair lasting around four hours with delays because of tape malfunctions and two bad crashes.
The first crash wasin heat six when WA's Vince Gianoncelli/Justin Winchester crashed into the fence on the back straight.
Then in heat 13, Broken Hill's Rick Stephens/Dean Hobbs were within metres of a win when they ran off the track and crashed into the starting post. Both were taken to hospital and the rest of the races were started by green light.
No news on any injuries at the moment.
