New Zealander Grant Tregoning will not be taking his place with the Newport 'Darlows' Wasps Premier League team for the 2010 season after proving unable to commit to a deadline set by the club for his arrival in the UK. The club is currently in negotiation with young Australian Alex Davies to replace him with the hope that he will sort his visa application out in time to ride for the Wasps in their first away match at Somerset Speedway on Friday March 26th.
Commented club owner Steve Mallett: 'We regret having to take this action but the new season approaching something had to be done. We hope that Grant will still join the Wasps in the future and we have not shut the door.'
Tregoning had a successful season with the Newport Hornets National League side in the 2009 season including victory in the National League Pairs Championship with Tony Atkin.
However he did not appear at last Friday's Press and Practice session at Newport Speedway indicating that he was delaying his return.
