Stoke Easy Rider Potters open their home season at Loomer Road on Saturday night (7.30pm) when they entertain local rivals Birmingham in the second leg of the M6 Trophy.

The Potters who won the trophy last season have to overturn an eighteen point deficit if they are to retain the trophy after going down to a 54-36 defeat at Perry Barr on Wednesday night.

The Potters name an unchanged line up for the meeting but do make a change in the riding order with Hynek Stichauer moving to number three and Michal Rajkowski switching to number four.

Birmingham who have made five changes over the closed season will be spearheaded by veteran Aussie duo Steve Johnston and Jason Lyons who always ride the Stoke circuit well and they will be well supported with Richard Sweetman, Chris Kerr and Aaron Summers who have also put in some good displays around the Loomer road bowl over the last couple of seasons. At reserve the Brummies have Justin Sedgmen who scored well in the first leg and Perry Barr on Wednesday night and newcomer Jake Anderson who makes his first ever appearance at the Chesterton venue.

Stoke team manager Malcolm Vasey said “We will need to be on top form if we are to retain the trophy and will do our best. We were doing well on Wednesday night and only six points adrift until the final three heats when Birmingham hit us for three successive five ones and hopefully we can do that to them here, but it will be very difficult and we know that. We know the quality Birmingham have in their side with Steve and Jason a very formidable partnership late on in the meeting and we are fully aware Chris and Richard go well around here as well so we’ll have to fight for every point and hopefully that will be enough.”

Stoke: Jason Bunyan (Captain), Klaus Jakobsen, Hynek Stichauer, Michal Rajkowski, Ricky Wells, James Holder, Taylor Poole

Birmingham: Steve Johnston, Aaron Summers, Chris Kerr, Richard Sweetman, Jason Lyons (Captain), Justin Sedgmen, Jake Anderson
