Representatives of the Eastbourne Lifestyle Eagles Speedway team will potentially be pitching to a global audience this coming Wednesday as they endeavour to get their message across that Arlington Stadium really is the place to be as the tapes rise and the race for the campaign’s first bend ensues against the Peterborough Panthers in their Grand Opening Challenge match at the Sussex venue on Saturday March 20th (7.30p.m. start time).
Club co-promoters Mike Bellerby and Trevor Geer together with newly appointed Eagles Captain Cameron Woodward are set to feature on a special fans forum radio phone in programme hosted by Sports Editor Tim Durrans on BBC Sussex on Wednesday evening, March 17th from 19.05 – 20.00.
The format for the programme will initially take the form of a general discussion with the Eagles contingent outlining their hopes and aspirations for the season ahead but will quickly be handed over to the supporters to have their views and enquiries broadcast over the air waves.
With that in mind, the club hereby throw open the debate to Eagles fans, whether near or far to pose any questions, make any requests or offer any advice that they may feel will ‘add to’ their speedway experience or enrich the already buoyant mood currently prevalent down Arlington way.
The number for fans to ring in on to pitch their questions is 08459 570057, the lines will open at 19.00 on the evening. Alternatively people can text from the same time to 07786 207070 or if preferred they can e-mail the station on sussexsport@bbc.co.uk.
It will also be possible to book a call ahead of the broadcast, to exercise that option, supporters are urged to e-mail sussexsport@bbc.co.uk at anytime between now and next Wednesday, giving a home or mobile number to contact and the station will ring them back on the night.
BBC Sussex not only broadcasts on frequencies 95.3FM, 104.5FM and 104.8FM, but also via the internet at http://www.bbc.co.uk/sussex/local_radio .
Fans should also be aware that a link to which will be available on the Eagles own official website http://www.elite-eagles.com on the night.
BBC Sussex are long time supporters of the Eagles cause, regularly carrying features and pictures of the Sussex clubs latest exploits on their website as well as broadcasting current news and match results.
The Sussex clubs’ management remains most grateful to BBC Sussex for their support in arranging the fans forum and hope this will mark the start of increased coverage of the Eagles as they strive to forge closer links with all the local media outlets and get the latest news stories out there to their loyal and valued supporters.
They also welcome the exposure that this can offer further afield with Speedway supporters across the globe able to tune in, fans near and far which the club is sure will include a number of ‘ex-pat’ Eagles die-hards from seasons gone by. Indeed club skipper Cameron Woodward is apparently particularly delighted that the broadcast will allow family and friends in his Australian homeland to listen to him on the radio.
Club co-promoter Mike Bellerby commented “Trevor, Cam and I are certainly very much looking forward to communing with our supporters on next Wednesday’s fans forum and we feel most indebted to Tim Durrans and all at BBC Sussex in offering us the opportunity to get our message out there. We look forward to working closer, not only with BBC Sussex but all available media outlets throughout the coming season and we shall be doing all in our power to give them a winning team to support” he concluded.
