The British Speedway season starts on Sunday in the best possible way as a World class field competes for the second Ben Fund Bonanza title at Rye House (2.30pm, gates open 11am).
Leigh Adams defends his championship against star names such as Jason Crump, Nicki Pedersen, Freddie Lindgren, Krzysztof Kasprzak, Scott Nicholls and others, with a new 20-man, 20-heat format topped by a semi-final and final.
Tony Noel is the chairman of the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund trustees and he was keen to point out the importance of the event. “This Speedway meeting was the idea of the Fund manager Paul Ackroyd who realised that in these uncertain financial times there was a danger that the income from the reserves would be seriously reduced.
“Thankfully with the considerable help of last years Speedway meeting this has not caused a problem.”
He added “The Trustees are grateful that once again many of the worlds best Speedway riders have come together to support this very worthwhile cause.”
Once again some of the most seriously injured riders will be guests at the meeting and amongst those who will definitely be there are Lawrence Hare, Garry Stead, Steve Weatherley, Neil Hewitt, Paul Mitchell and Graham Miles. World Champions Barry Briggs and Freddie Williams will be there again to show support for the event.
Admission prices for the big event will be the same as for Rockets’ meetings during the season: Adults £15, OAPs £13 and Children £5.
