Scunthorpe Speedway: Juul shines bright.

With a strong field in the Open Class it was Danish rider Peter Juul Larsen who secured victory in the ‘A’ Final of Scunthorpe Speedway’s Winter Series meeting yesterday.

He headed home Scunthorpe Saints’ riders Ashley Birks and Steven Worrall whilst Mildenhall’s Matt Bates took a tumble.

The Support Class arguably provided the most competitive racing of the day with all five riders seemingly capable of beating each other but it was Andy Mountain who claimed the win ahead of David Holt and Cameron Hoskins.  The Novice Class saw Barnetby-based Andy Harrison return to the Eddie Wright Raceway and sweep through the card to finally claim his first class win after several podium finishes.  Trevor Bebbington did head Harrison for a while in the final but he had to settle for the runners-up position ahead of Craig Whitehead.

It was good to see some junior riders in the Youth 250 class with Scorpions’ mascot Reece Downes and relative beginner Connor Mountain having a spin.

Gunness-based Grand Prix star and former Scunthorpe Scorpion, Tai Woffinden, kindly presented the trophies after actually filling a space in the open class qualifying races.  Unsurprisingly he won all of his five rides as he worked on his race fitness ahead of the new season.

The final round of the Winter Series is set to take place next Saturday afternoon, 13th March (1pm start)
