The Jotun Paints Scunthorpe Saints have secured the services of 21-year old Gareth Isherwood to complete their starting seven for the 2010 National League season.
Promoter Rob Godfrey is pleased Gareth has agreed to join the club and feels the Eddie Wright Raceway is just the place for him to progress. “I remember him top-scoring here for Buxton in 2008 with about sixteen points. He looked ready for the Premier League that night and whilst he didn’t have a great 2009 I’m sure he can get back to at least his 2008 level with the Saints”.
“I believe he was disappointed not get a Premier League berth with Stoke last year and Buxton suggested that might have affected his form. Whatever the reason he is a nice lad who was Buxton’s best rider just twelve months ago. I believe he, along with Benji Compton, Scott Richardson and Gary Irving can take on the opposition heat leaders both home and away whilst the three teenagers, Adam Wrathall, Steve Worrall and Ash Birks will spring more than a few surprises along the way. After the disappointment of losing three young riders at the end of last season I am once again excited about the potential within the Saints side”.
“Hopefully we can have at least one or two of them ready for the Premier League by the end of the season and if that happens then the season will have been a great success. Despite only having been able to sign assets for two years we now have five in the Saints, two more out on loan (Byron Bekker and Richard Franklin) and three in the Scorpions’ side. That’s not bad and the sooner we can get the Scorpions’ number up the better”.
“We have seven riders in the Saints who all have the potential to ride for the Scorpions in the future. They aren’t riding simply for fun or for the money but all have ambitions to ride in the Premier League and an exceptional season for any one of them could put them in the frame for a place with the Scorpions. I know we would have to discuss with Sheffield or Stoke should it be Benji or Gareth but really the only stumbling block would be if their parent club wanted to put them in their line-up. Either way they would get a Premier League berth. All they need now is that exceptional season”.
