Having now been installed as the Wightlink Islanders new co-promoter Chris Hunt is eagerly looking forward to the season ahead and feels it's a season in which the team can achieve success providing they don't encounter a horrendous run of injuries like last year.
A former rider who rode for a number of clubs including the Wightlink Islanders back in 2001, Chris is relishing undertaking his new role at the club and all the increased responsibilty that goes with it plus combining that with the position he held last season, that of joint team manager with Kevin Shepherd.
"Kevin and I formed a good partnership " he said, "learnt a lot off of each other as the season progressed and despite me taking on extra duties now at the club, I'm looking forward to working with him again this year.
"I must confess to being a little surprised when I was asked to take on the role of co-promoter this year but quickly agreed as this is a great little club and Kevin and I agree we have unfinished business to complete in terms of bringing some silverware to the island."
So how does he rate the 2010 Wightlink Islanders squad chances of bringing success to the island and the trophies that go with it?
"Certainly as good as any other side in the league," he responded, "for looking at the teams that have been put together by all the clubs, there's no out and out favourites to lift the title this year, we all looked pretty evenly matched on paper at least and I think we've got a team that's as good as any other.
"We've got six riders back from 2009 in our eight man squad all determined to build upon their performances for the club last season, plus newcomers to the side in the experienced Danny Warwick and young Dan Blake.
"I'm confident that we can push hard for all the major trophies up for grabs this year and both myself and everyone else here at the club are eagerly looking forward to the season getting underway."
As previously revealed, the first three chances for Wightlink Islanders' fans to get a whiff of methanol fumes come with the staging of open practice sessions scheduled to take place at the Wave105FM stadium on the evenings of March 9th, 16th and 23rd and those fans are reminded again that, if they haven't done so already, season tickets for the season ahead will be on sale on all three nights.
Off track club officials are talking to both existing and prospective new sponsors and advertisers plus looking at various ways of 'spreading the word' still further to island residents and indeed people on the south coast opposite that if it's excitement they want, then there'll be that in abundance at all the Wightlink Islanders home matches in 2010.
