DUDLEY Heathens are just one rider short of completing their 2010 National League Speedway team – after adding two more riders.

Adam McKinna, son of former Glasgow, Edinburgh and Belle Vue star Kenny, joins the club alongside teenager James Sarjeant.

McKinna will be with Ben Taylor and Lee Smart in the top three, Ashley Morris and Richard Franklin will be second-string riders and Sarjeant will start at reserve.

Team manager Will Pottinger is thrilled with the double-swoop by the team carrying the famous old Cradley Heath nickname.

He said: “Adam contacted us a number of times and was very keen to ride for the Heathens despite living in Newcastle.

“I believe he has the ability to improve his starting average which is of course key to being a successful team.

“Adam will slot into the team as our third heat leader and will be the oldest rider at just 23 years old. We don't foresee his commitments with Newcastle in the Premier League causing us a major problem and he’s meeting up with our Chairman next week.

“I'm pleased we have managed to sign James Sarjeant. Colin Pratt made initial contact with me offering James to us and he was always in our thoughts for one of the reserve berths.

“After looking at his figures from last season, his away average was higher than his home average so hopefully we can get him dialled into both the Wolves and Birmingham tracks and increase his overall average.

“A full season at reserve will help him greatly as last season he spent more time in Scunthorpe's top five than at reserve.”
