The two nights of motorcycle speedway racing at Alice Springs' Arunga Park Speedway were a huge success for the sport in the heart of Australia.
On the second night (Saturday, 6 February), Townsville's Gary Moon reversed the previous night's result when he took out the final ahead of current Australian Champion Mark Mitchell.
The two exchanged the lead throughout the race, with Byren Gates coming in a close third and Tony Puddy, who won the semi-final, a close fourth.
Moon praised the race track, which was better than the previous night, and said it was one of the best race tracks that he has ridden on.
Robert Ksiezak had bike problems early on which left Robert Branford and Arlo Bugeja to fight for the top position in the Solo events, with Branford winning the final.
A safe track, good racing and a big crowd produced a top-notch meeting. All of the riders have said that it was a great weekend, congratulated the Alice Springs Club for putting on the show, and are already talking of doing it again next season.
"Let's get the Gillman season over and I am sure we will look into doing it again, bigger and better", said event organiser Dave Parker (Gillman Speedway Manager). "We all had a great weekend and had a lot of fun and laughs, so why wouldn't we do it again, isn't this why we are mixed up in Speedway?"
