SWINDON ROBINS

SWINDON have added Steve Boxall to their Elite League squad for the new season.

Boxall will ride for Somerset on a full-time basis in the Premier League but will be Swindon’s number eight man.

Robins co-boss Gary Patchett said: “Steve is a talented young rider and his performance in January’s New Year Classic at Newport clearly demonstrated his ability.

“After a couple of frustrating seasons he is approaching the 2010 campaign with a newfound confidence and clear of injury. Steve likes the Swindon circuit and also has good experience on lots of other Elite league tracks.

“We're confident he’ll do a good job for the club when required during 2010.”

BELLE VUE ACES

BELLE Vue have signed the experienced Leigh Lanham after their move to bring in Canadian champion, Kyle Legault, was ruled out by a technicality.

Ipswich-based Lanham, the British Under-21 champion in 1997, spent much of his career in the Elite League before joining Premier League Newport last season.

Boss Chris Morton said: “We are delighted to have signed a rider of Lanham's experience because he will know all the Elite League tracks intimately. Also, he is thrilled to be joining us.”

BEN FUND BONANZA

SCOTT Nicholls is the latest big name to be added to the Ben Fund Bonanza meeting at Rye House on March 14.

The former British Champion, who will be riding for his local club Ipswich again this season, joins World Champions Nicki Pedersen and Jason Crump in the event to raise cash for the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund.

He said: “It’s going to be interesting for me because I have never ridden at Rye House!

“But I think it is good to have it on a Premier League track because the fans don’t always get to see top GP riders, the best in the country and indeed the world.”

SOMERSET REBELS

SOMERSET have named former Rebel Mark Lemon and Belle Vue’s Danish Grand Prix star Hans Andersen as the first two riders to appear in their 10th anniversary meeting.

The event takes place on Friday March 19 and it represents an impressive start to the line-up.

Promoter Debbie Hancock said: “We are also pleased to announce that normal admission prices will apply and season tickets are also valid for what promises to be a great night of entertainment.”
