Leigh Adams will front Swindon’s charge in 2010 after agreeing terms
to spend a twelfth British campaign at Blunsdon.
The Australian stalwart, Swindon’s all-time top point-scorer, will
line-up in the Robins’ colours next season, some twenty years after
first riding for the club. The 2010 campaign will add to Adams’
previous years with the Robins from 1990-92, 1997-98 and 2004-09.
Adams, who won’t be competing in the 2010 World Speedway Grand Prix,
has returned to Australia for a four-week visit, which will not
involve any racing.
The affectionately named ‘Sultan of Slide’ was ever-present in
Swindon’s 2009 Elite League campaign, amassing an impressive
green-sheet average (excluding bonus points) of 10.00.The 38-year-old
Mildura-born racer collected the Elite League Riders’ Championship and
led Swindon to the Elite League Play-Off final.
Swindon co-owner Terry Russell said: “I’m sure Swindon fans will be
very happy to have Leigh Adams captaining the side once again in 2010.
"Obviously it’s great to have him as a confirmed starter in what could
well be his final European season. It's not just Leigh’s on-track
presence that’s so important, it’s what he offers the whole squad off
track, too.
"Of course, Swindon is the natural place for Leigh to ride his British
League speedway and from speaking to him, I know he’s more determined than ever to secure silverware in 2010.
"Naturally, the club will do everyone possible to help him achieve
domestic glory as we aim to make the 2010 campaign one to really
remember.”
The ten-times Australian Champion joins Swede Thomas H. Jonasson as a confirmed starter for Swindon’s 2010 squad.
