Belle Vue Speedway: Aces assist St Cuthbert's.

St Cuthbert's is a successful college in St Helens and has been recently recognised as one of the top three across the country for social enterprise.

Recently, we have received funding that has allowed us to make partnerships across St Helens and beyond, bringing huge benefits for our students.  One of the best partnerships we have made has been with Belle Vue speedway.  The club's Ged Blake and Steve Casey have been in school to work with the children, developing literacy and numeracy skills, key skills, improving motivation and self confidence.

The students have had opportunities to visit Belle Vue, meet riders, watch races from the centre green and much more.  Promoter Chris Morton himself has been to school to work with the children!  It's been a fabulous course and we are so grateful to Belle Vue for everything they have done.

It gets better. On the 16th December Belle Vue are bringing two riders to the school to sign their contracts for the 2010 season.  It's a prestigious event for the college and one that is a part of our growing link with the club.

We are inviting lots of local dignitaries, including the Mayor of St Helens, and I know that the Speedway Star magazine and the Manchester Evening News are covering the story.

We think this is a bit different from the norm.  I don't think you'd see Manchester City signing players at our school.  Believe me, if it were possible, I'd have them in as well, as they are my second passion.  Belle Vue are fantastically innovative and I am thrilled that they have given our children this opportunity.

What we are hoping to do is maximise the exposure of this event as much as we can and hope that you may have the contacts to bring the radio stations and the television to our school to cover this event.

We can promise you a warm welcome, good food from our resident chef and a chance to meet some of the children who are really benefiting from our link with the Aces. Any help or support would be warmly received.
