Buck Blair and Russell Green used their skill and pounced on opportunity to collect the Battery Mart Best Pairs Championship at Wheel2Wheel Raceway in Victorville.
The duo wasn’t originally paired together, but when Blair was left without a partner prior to the semi-final round, Green was drafted in to fill the position. In the Final, they would face the formidable pairing of Josh Larsen and Jimmy Fishback.
Larsen and Blair gated together, but Larsen’s began to slow entering turn one and coasted to a stop on the back straight. The obvious fourth place took some of the tension off of what was a fantastic battle at the front between Blair and Fishback. The two riders fought tooth-and-nail for four laps before Blair surged ahead to cross the line first. The result meant that Blair and Green were20crowned champions while Fishback and Larsen had to leave the track frustrated and wondering of what could have been.
Larsen and Fishback opened the heats by roaring to victory over Robbie Sauer and Brad Sauer. Blair and his original partner, Austin Novratil scored a 4-2 in the next heat. The Sauer Brothers then scored a very impressive 5-1 over Eddie Castro and Adam Mittl. Larsen and Fishback cruised to another 5-1 over Green. Blair was victorious in the next heat, but Novratil suffered an engine failure that ended his evening.
Fishback and Larsen made it three 5-1s in a row in race 19. Blair, forced to compete alone, was victorious in the next heat. Green, also competing alone, defeated the Sauer Brothers for his only personal victory of the evening.
In the final round, Mittl and Castro scored a 5-1 over Green before Blair ended the perfect run of Larsen and Fishback by winning the final heat.
Blair, and his newly appointed partner Green, beat the Sauer Brothers in the Last Chance despite the impressive outside riding by Robbie Sauer to collect second place.
Tyson Talkington won all three heats to spearhead his partnership with Dylan Black to victory in the Support Pairs Championship. Rick Fehrman and Tony DeAlmeida were second overall and Bubba Vazzana and Rick Huspek were third overall.
Nicky Reimer defeated Major Davis to win the Youth Main Event.
Reimer also collected the victory in the Super Pee Wee Main Event. Jimmy McDonald finished second, Brandon Rhea was third, Erika Lyons was fourth, and Victoria Matthews finished fifth.
Summer Fehrman was victorious over Dakota Shockley in the Pee Wee Main Event.
Lyons led all four laps to win the Powderpuff Main Event. Cassi Novratil finished second, Victoria Matthews was third, Ally McGrath finished fourth, Summer Fehrman was fifth, Julie Shockley finished sixth, and Lexie Davis was seventh.
The next speedway event at Wheel2Wheel Raceway is the Season Finale on November 14 and the racing will start at 3:00 p.m.
