The Birmingham Monarchs completed their fixtures in the Midland Cycle Speedway league on Sunday when they defeated the Leicester Club 94 points to 81 at their Perry Hall Park track.
This means that they have raced the whole season both home and away unbeaten - something that has not been achieved for many many seasons. The top scorers for the Club were English Internationals Marcus Wadhams & Chris Timms, Scottish International Nathan Groves and Great Britain rider and British Under 19 Champion Paul Heard - these 4 provided 14 of the 18 race winners on the afternoon and received solid support from the other 4 riders Mark Winwood, Andy James, Paul Timms and Tom Sensicall.
The Monarchs still have two Premier League matches to race - away at Horspath (Oxford) this Sunday, and at home to Leicesters Premier League side on Sunday 18th - tapes up at 2pm. Victory in both of these matches would mean that Birmingham could potentially mark their first season back in the top flight with League victory , however for this to happen they do need Sheffield to drop points.
To mark what has been a great year for the Club - as well as the Midland League they have already won the British Team trophy, The British Under 19 team and are one match away from the Premier Combination trophy - they will be holding a presentation night at Hamstead Social Club on Friday 20th November. It will be a ticket only event with tickets costing £5 each including buffet and raffle. More details can be found on the Monarchs website www.birminghammonarchscsc.webs.com
