Astley & Tyldesley played host to members of the Halfords Bikehut professional road racing team, who enjoyed a fun training session and photoshoot at Gin Pit on Tuesday afternoon.
The session was organised by Cycling Weekly magazine, in conjunction with British Cycling, with Cycling Weekly publishing a feature on the afternoon's events in a future edition.
Olympic medallist and twice World Champion Rob Hayles participated, along with Ian Wilkinson, fresh from his win in the Elite Circuit Race series at Warwick two days earlier. Ian Bibby and Mark McNally both made a return to Gin Pit, having taken part in a few cycle speedway training sessions a few years earlier, when members of British Cycling's North West Talent Team.
All four riders adapted well to cycle speedway and thoroughly enjoyed a few competitive races together, in a discipline which is completely different to road racing.
The A & T club wish the Halfords Bikehut team the best of luck in this week's forthcoming Tour of Britain race and members will be watching their progress with great interest.
