Cornish stars Matt Tyrell and Shaun Yates took the major honours in the second round of the British Sidecar Speedway Championship at Plymouth’s St Boniface Arena on Friday evening.
They dropped only one point from their four rides during the qualifying heats when they were beaten by Mark Cossar and Andi Wilson in their final race. But that was the only win of the evening for Cossar and Wilson, who won the first round at Somerset a fortnight ago.
The result was declared according to the points scored during the 12 heats after which the meeting had to be halted because of steady rain, which was falling throughout the evening.
It had been intended to complete the round with two semi-finals and final, that those races were abandoned because of the conditions.
In second place were Ivor Mathews and Rick McAuley with Rod Winterburn and Gareth Winterburn finishing third overall.
Scorers:
Matt Tyrrell/Shaun Yates 11, Ivor Mathews/Rick McAuley 10, Rod Winterburn/Gareth Winterburn 9, Gary Jackson/Carl Blyth 8, Mark Cossar/Andi Wilson 7, Craig Cheatham/ Dave Hogan 6, Roy Spreadbury/Gareth Little 4, Mick Cave/Terry Madley 4, Rich Moore/Matt Vickery 4, Mark Heatley/Martin Davis 4, Darren Wilce/David Williams 2.
