NEWCASTLE DIAMONDS

NEWCASTLE have made a significant team-strengthening move by bringing in Mark Lemon - less than a week after his release from Newport.

Lemon will take over as second heat-leader for the Diamonds, and replaces reserve Craig Branney.

Co-promoter Darryl Illingworth said: "A change was needed, and when the chance came of bringing in a rider of Mark's standard, there was no delay in doing deals."

WORKINGTON COMETS

WORKINGTON manager Ian Thomas has been released from hospital and is now recovering at home.

Thomas was taken into intensive care last month after suffering an infection following a routine operation, and was then moved to the high-dependency unit.

Comets owner Keith Denham said: "He's a tough man and he wants to get back as soon as possible. He's planning to come to Workington on Saturday."
