Glasgow Speedway: Guests, guests and more guests

A never ending run of injuries over the past couple of seasons has once again reared its ugly head.  A side already devoid of Ross Brady and Josh Grajczonek will now also be missing talisman Shane Parker for this weekend's mighty difficult clash against the league favourites Kings Lynn.

The A-Plant Tigers skipper, Parker was sidelined in an early crash in the Premier League Pairs last week and although he has no broken bones in his back, he is sitting out this weekend's clashes with Workington on Saturday and with Kings Lynn on Sunday.  Returning Co-Promoter Stewart Dickson knows that he will have to be very reliant on guests this coming week:

"These meetings this weekend are hard enough.  We lost at home in our last fixture to Berwick, a fixture which we should have won, so we can expect nothing other than a titanic battle with Kings Lynn coming here with their star studded side.  We will have to be very reliant on guests and all I can hope is that we have chosen wisely for these meetings.  Somerset's Steve Johnston will come in for Shane and William Lawson of Berwick will deputise for Josh, while rider replacement will operate for Ross.  I know that both riders brought in have the ability to score heavily at our place and both did so in their previous meetings on the Ashfield shale. The one thing that is absolutely certain is that Kings Lynn are deservedly the favourites for the league and they will come here in a rich vein of form and will be expecting a win and a big win at that.

I will swap the riding order about a bit for this one as I think with the new averages kicking in we need to take time out to see if we can improve things a bit.  Hopefully this will be the case but what is definite is that we all have to up our game and if that is the case then perhaps we can surprise a few people and get a win."

TEAMS:

Glasgow - 1. James Grieves  2. Rusty Harrison  3.  William Lawson  4.  Ross Brady r/r   5.  Steve Johnston  6.  Mitchell Davey  7. Lee Dicken

Kings Lynn - 1. Darcy Ward  2. Linus Eklof  3. Emiliano Sanchez  4. Chris Scramm 5. Tomas Topinka  6. Kozza Smith  7. Jan Graversen.

BEST OF THE REST:

The guest theme will be very much in evidence at Workington this coming Saturday too, with the Tigers taking on the league leaders.  Once again Steve Johnston will guest for Shane Parker, but in a slight change of tact, the Tigers will operate rider replacement for Josh Grajczonek and bring in Justin Sedgemen, also of Somerset, to guest for Ross Brady.  This will allow Rusty Harrison, a former Workington rider, an extra outing at Derwent Park.

Josh Grzjczonek is still back home in Australia but has set himself a target of a fortnight on Sunday as a possible return to the team.  He will miss out on the tour of Somerset and Stoke next weekend as well as the home fixture with Sheffield, but is determined to race against Somerset the following Sunday.

With Shane crashing out of the Pairs championships in his first race, it effectively ended the team's chances of winning the event.  Although able to draft in local reserve Tom Brown, the team finished 9th out of the 10 teams, finishing ahead of Rye House in the overall standings.

The Tigers have been informed that they will not be involved in the Premier League Four Team Tournament at the end of the month.  This is due to not having enough qualifying riders at the time of the cut-off.  Long term injuries to Ross Brady and Josh Grajczonek ruled them out, and neither Rusty Harrison nor Lee Dicken had ridden enough fixtures to come into contention.  The Promotion are disappointed at this news as a large Glasgow support would have undoubtedly been a welcome addition to the meeting.

Tapes up on Sunday is at 4.00pm with parade at 3.50pm.

The referee for Sunday's meeting is Dan Holt.
